Eagles Baseball Team Partners with E.C. Brice in "Just Say No to Drugs" Campaign


On Thursday, October 29 the Eagles Baseball team partnered with E.C. Brice Elementary School in there "Just Say No to Drugs" campaign. The Eagles participated in the elementary school's assembly about the dangers of using drugs. The Eagles visited with the students about there drug-free lives that they have lead and the right choices that they have made to have the ability to be a college student and athlete. "It was great to see our student-athletes have the chance to interact with the elementary students about a drug free life," said Athletic Director and Head Baseball Coach Chris Smith. Coach Smith also mentioned, "that we hold our student-athletes to high standards in the classroom, the community, and the baseball field. Our young men are looked up to in the community to be a positive role model to the youth within the Titus County Area. We expect our players to strive and achieve this goal by setting positive examples." The Eagles Baseball team would like to thank E.C. Brice Elementary School for allowing them to be a part of there "Just Say No to Drugs" campaign.

Game 1 of Fall World Series Postponed


Game 1 of the Fall World Series was postponed due to inclement weather. Game 1 has been re-scheduled for Saturday, October 31 at 11:00 am. The Fall World Series is open to the public. Game 2 has been set for Sunday, November 1 with a time to be determined. For scores and updates please check back daily.

NTCC TO START FALL WORLD SERIES


The Northeast Texas Community College Eagles will start its 5 game Fall World Series on Tuesday, October 27 at Bob Baker Stadium located on the NTCC campus. The games are open to the public. The Fall World Series will mark the culmination of fall practices for the Eagles.

3 Eagles Selected to Texas-New Mexico Junior College All-Star Game

Jake Atwell (Parker's Chapel, AR), Zach Cates (Conway, AR), and Michael Nava (Nashville, AR) were selected to the annual Texas-New Mexico Junior College All Star game. The event was held at Baylor University in Waco, Texas on October 9 and 10. The All-Star team is comprised of athletes from junior college conferences in Texas and New Mexico. The three Eagles were selected by the coaches of Region 14.







Atwell had a very solid freshman campaign as an outfielder and a starting pitcher. Jake was selected to the All-Star team as an outfielder. In Atwell's freshman year he hit .369 in 49 games with 168 at-bats. He compiled 62 hits with 10 doubles, 3 triples, and 2 home runs. Jake had a slugging percentage of .500 and an on base percentage of .455. He also scored 36 runs while stealing 15 of 16 bases. On the mound Jake held a record of 3-3 with a 2.56 ERA in 38.2 innings pitched. He started 10 games while giving up 40 hits while striking out 34 batters while only walking 12.






Zach Cates was a two-way player for the Eagles during the 2009 season. He saw the majority of his time handling the pitching staff as the catcher. Zach was also a pitcher for the Eagles and was selected to the All-Star game as a pitcher. On the mound for the Eagles Cate's posted a 1-0 record with a 2.57 ERA in 7 innings pitched. He only allowed 2 hits while striking out 10 would be hitters. Early in the spring Zach was handling the pitching staff behind the plated due to two catchers falling to injuries. At the plate Zach hit .290 in 44 games played while scoring 20 runs. He compiled 38 hits, 7 doubles, 3 home runs and drove in 29 runners.






Michael Nava had a solid freshman campaign as a starting pitcher for the Eagles. Nava posted a 6-5 record with 13 starts. He had an ERA of 4.35 while only allowing 40 hits in 51.2 innings pitched. He held opposing hitters to a .202 batting average while striking out 56 would be hitters.
