The Eagles are off to a 2-1 start on the 2010 season. The Eagles took the field against Cedar Valley College for the home opener. The Eagles won the first game of the doubleheader with a strong pitching performance by Austin O'Donnell and Justin Jenkins. The Eagles won the game 5-3. For the night cap the Eagles were not as fortunate with a 9-8 loss. On Tuesday the Eagles traveled to Weatherford College and faced a very solid ball club. They saw very good pitching from the Weatherford pitching staff, and quite possibly the best they might see all year. The Eagles had yet another strong pitching performance from starter Zach Cates who went 4 innings while only allowing 1 run and striking out four batters. Cates handed the ball to Henry Garcia in the 5th inning and was very successful. Henry went 5 strong innings while striking out 9 hitters and giving up 1 earned run. The Game was tied until the top of the 10th when Mark Robinette drove in Justin Creel and Ray Johnson drove in Jake Atwell for the 2 run lead. In the bottom of the 10th inning Michael Nava came in for the save and pitched very well with a 1-2-3 inning while striking out the side in 10 pitches.
The Eagles are shaping up great and are off to a good start for the 2010 season. The Eagles will next host Mt. View College for a doubleheader on Saturday February 6. The game time will be 6 pm. We hope to see you at the park!!
